Our Practice

Join us for one of our Pilates programmes for a more personal and safe approach to exercising. The friendly atmosphere allows you to work at your own individual level whilst in a fun and sociable setting, safe in the mind that a Chartered Physiotherapist is leading the way.
Pilates is an excellent way of improving strength, balance and posture allowing you to become in tune with your body and mind. Whether you are recovering from injury, looking to improve your fitness levels or overall body shape, physiotherapy led Pilates classes can help you work towards your goal.
Groups will be capped at a maximum of 12 people to ensure each individual can receive the attention they need throughout the class.  Classes will be booked in blocks with payment taken in advance in order to secure your place. 1-2-1 or smaller groups sessions can be arranged subject to availability.

About Me

I started my career in the sport industry, completing a Bsc Hons in Sports and Exercise Science at Nottingham University. I worked as a qualified fitness instructor for just over a year prior to doing my Physiotherapy Masters at Teesside University.
Over the last 12 years as a qualified Physiotherapist, I have worked both in the NHS at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS trust and in the private sector. I now routinely work as a Specialist Neuro-Physiotherapist, which regularly involves assessing and treating patients with postural control and balance issues. However, my interest in Pilates stems from my own injury in 2015 and the use of Pilates to recover from knee reconstructive surgery.
Seeing both the personal benefits of Pilates and through regular use with patients, I went on to complete APPI Matwork Level 1, 2 and 3 training. APPI Pilates fits in well to my approach to rehabilitation and training, by building a strong foundation of strength and flexibility to promote normal movement.

What is Pilates

In the 1920s Joseph Pilates produced a sequence of exercises and over the years there have been a number of approaches and adaptations to the original method.
The Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI) was established in 1999 by Physiotherapists specifically for those working in rehabilitation. In this approach, each exercise is broken down into clearly defined levels to allow a standard gradual progression. This allows people to work at the correct level to promote normal movement and thus reducing the risk of injury.
The APPI approach is focused around 5 key elements which provide the building blocks to optimal posture and efficient movement. These key elements will run throughout all the sessions. Through practice it will improve posture and function in daily life.

What to expect

Each individual will be required to complete a registration form and have one to one contact with myself. This allows the sessions to be tailored to individual needs safely whilst still enjoying the ability to exercise in a group setting.
Sessions will be capped at a maximum of 12 people to ensure each person gets the attention needed for optimal progress. To allow for progression to be built into the programmes safely, sessions will be booked in blocks. Pre-payment for each block booking is needed to secure the place.
All equipment will be provided but I would recommend for your own comfort, you bring a small towel and a bottle of water to each session.
